Over the years, the teaching of Anatomy which started with only twenty-eight (28) Medical students, has extended to include Dental, Physiotherapy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Human Kinetics and Health Education.

In addition to teaching Anatomy to undergraduate students we are also actively involved in the teaching and training of Postgraduate students since 1980. Many graduates of this program, are making us proud both locally and internationally. In fact, most of our Academic staff are products of this Postgraduate training.

The philosophy of the Department of Anatomy is founded on a strong emphasis on competence, professionalism, and pushing the boundaries of biomedical knowledge to the highest degree of global competitiveness in the fields of neuroscience, cell biology, clinical anatomy, embryology, reproductive biology, endocrinology, and biological and forensic anthropology. The Department of Anatomy has made giant strides, especially in Reproductive Medicine. The first successful in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer that led to the birth of a bouncing baby boy in Nigeria on March 17, 1989, was done in the Department of Anatomy, University of Lagos.
