Personal Statement
I am an Associate Professor of Medical Parasitology in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Lagos. My research work spans across parasitic diseases with focus on malaria epidemiology and diagnosis, Plasmodium falciparum genetic diversity and antimalarial drug resistance. His work has highlighted focal nature of malaria transmission with some areas of Lagos being designated malaria hotspots. He has carried out studies that demonstrated the effectiveness of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy using sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine.
I am a member of the national antimalarial therapeutic efficacy monitoring group that monitors the efficacy of antimalarial drugs in Nigeria. I have been involved in different malaria interventions across Nigeria such as seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) and Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria in Schoolchildren. I have also been part of several malaria projects as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator which has led to publications in peer-reviewed journals locally and internationally.
