Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology

Welcome Note

Prof.

The Department provides a core training platform for Medical and Dental undergraduate students at the 300-Level programme where they rotate through three units namely: Virology/Immunology, Parasitology and Bacteriology/Mycology. Apart from teaching the Medical and Dental students for whom the College of Medicine was initially founded, the Department is heavily involved in the teaching of Postgraduate students since the establishment of the School of Postgraduate Studies of the University of Lagos in 1982. So far, we have graduated over 500 Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree holders and over40 Ph.D candidates. Today, we contribute to the training of several categories of students including Nurses and Midwives, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Science Laboratory Technologists, as well as professional candidates such as Public Health Officers, Public Health Doctors (Masters Degree), Fellows of the National Postgraduate Medical College and The West African College of Physicians. We also have administrative and Technical staff who are the supporting staff in the Department.   Students from other Universities undergo industrial training in the Department, along with students from the main campus.
