I welcome you to the Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology, a pacesetter in Research and Teaching.
The department prepares the 3rd year Medical and Dental Students for a major part of their professional career which is Laboratory Diagnosis and Management of Infectious Diseases. Medical Microbiology and Parasitology deals with bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic (Diseases of Humans caused by Helminthes, Protozoa and Arthropods) infections of humans as well as those due to prions and other zoonotic infections. Immunology of infectious diseases is also dealt with alongside infection prevention and control.
The department is involved in Postgraduate Trainings and Programs. We have our MSc (MSc Medical Microbiology and MSc Medical Parasitology) M. Phil and PhD programs. The Postgraduate Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control is domiciled in the Department. We are also involved in training of other categories of students such as Nurses and Midwives as well as Professional Candidates of MPH and MSc Public Health, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and West African College of Physician.
