Personal Statement

I have a diversified work experience in health at International, National and local levels over the past 40 years. I have had the opportunity of serving as a Short Term Consultant/ Temporary Adviser to the World Health Organization, Geneva at various dates between 1993 and 2001 on Health Systems Development. I have also served as Consultant to the UNFPA, UNICEF, DFID and USAID sub-contractors in Nigeria e.g John Snow Inc and Africare. For the past 30 years I have been involved in the training of medical doctors, nurses and other categories of health workers in subject areas of public health. In the last 23 years I have been more and more involved in postgraduate medical education in Public Health in addition to undergraduate level training. From October 2006 till October 2014, I served as the Chief Medical Director/CEO of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, an 800-bedded University Teaching Hospital during which time I introduced or re-introduced cutting edge technology to service delivery in the hospital including endoscopic and laparoscopic surgical services. My tenure also witnessed the designation of LUTH as the Laparascopic and Endoscopic Training Centre for West Africa by the World Gastroenterology Organization. The Hospital also became the designated Paediatric Endocrinology Training Centre for West Africa among other landmark achievements. I continue to be interested in opportunities that will enable me share my experience in health systems development and quality delivery of services for the benefit of Nigerians.
