The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biochemistry is designed to prepare students for basic and general knowledge skills in various areas of biochemistry which they can harness to function as Biochemists in medicine, biotechnology, analytical chemistry, environmental science, bioinformatics and molecular biology. Biochemistry is a life-science discipline basic to cellular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, pharmacology, physiotherapy, physiology, biotechnology, biological sciences, agriculture, nutrition and food science. The Department of Biochemistry of the University of Lagos is located at the College of Medicine and it is equipped to teach and carry-out research in Biochemistry.As a primary function, the department offers courses in biochemistry to medical, dental, and para-medical students of the College of Medicine and students of biological sciences in faculty of science. The department also run the following degree programmes:

• i. A four-year programme for the Faculty of Science, leading to a B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in Biochemistry.
• ii. Postgraduate programmes for the school of postgraduate studies leading to the M.Sc., MPhil., and Ph.D. degrees in
  Biochemistry.
